EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market said it will double rewards points for the remainder of October for shoppers using its Friends of Fresh & Easy rewards card program, which was launched one year ago this week.

Shoppers will receive double points on all qualifying purchases “as a thank you” when they scan a special barcode available in their email, on the program website or mobile site, or in the weekly flyer. Shoppers can redeem points for cash-back rewards to spend on anything in the store. More than 1.8 million customers have joined the program.

Fresh & Easy has also developed a mobile website to make earning points and redeeming rewards easier. Most recently, the company introduced highly personalized special offers on products that shoppers buy most often.

“We’ve heard continually from customers who like how easy it is to earn rewards on something they do every week — shop for their groceries,” said John Burry, chief customer officer, Fresh & Easy, in a statement.

Fresh & Easy is a division of Tesco, which has developed a highly successful loyalty/rewards program in the U.K. Fresh & Easy, which operates 199 stores in three Western states, delayed introducing its own program until the fourth year of its operation in the U.S.
