LANDOVER, Md. — Giant Food here said Tuesday it has become "the official supermarket partner" of the Baltimore Ravens football team. Terms were not disclosed.

The two will kick off a season-long donation campaign for the Maryland Food Bank. Previously, the Ravens had partnered with Shoppers Food and Pharmacy, a division of Minneapolis-based Supervalu, for an annual food drive. The Ravens and Giant said they hope to donate more than 40,000 pounds of non-perishable food items to the Food Bank.

"Through our partnership with the Baltimore Ravens, we will continue to focus efforts on the communities we serve and help combat hunger," said Robin Michel, president Giant, which is owned by Amsterdam-based Ahold.

In addition to the designation as official supermarket of the Baltimore Ravens, Giant Food will be promoted as the Ravens' "Tailgating Headquarters," with prize giveaways and other events promoting Giant as a destination for football party supplies.

They will also partner on other charitable activities, including a breast-cancer awareness and prevention tie-in in October.
