Hy-Vee’s Jon Wendel Receives SN Marketer Award

ORLANDO, Fla. – Jon Wendel, senior vice president of marketing, Hy-Vee, received Supermarket News’ fifth annual Marketer of the Year Award here Sunday evening.
The presentation was made by SN Publisher Jerry Rymont at the Friends of the Industry Dinner during the Food Marketing Institute’s Midwinter Executive Conference.
In presenting the award, Rymont cited Wendel’s achievements in spearheading a price promotion campaign that helped boost Hy-Vee’s performance, in addition to his efforts in Web-based marketing and supplier relationships. An in-depth SN profile outlines Wendel's achievements in greater detail.
In accepting the award, Wendel saluted Hy-Vee colleagues and thanked suppliers for their role in boosting the company's performance.
The Friends Dinner presented its annual Founders Awards to Carole F. Bitter, president and CEO, Friedman’s Freshmarkets; Dan Portnoy, senior vice president and chief merchandising and marketing officer, Winn-Dixie Stores; Catherine Green, chief operating officer, Food Lion; James Flannery, director, global customer development, The Procter & Gamble Co.; Raymond Smaltz, senior vice president, grocery merchandise, Giant Eagle; and Neil Golub, president and CEO, Price Chopper Supermarkets, and his wife Jane, who is director, in-store marketing programs.
The Friends Dinner is also a venue for good works. Over the past eleven years more than $500,000 has been contributed to causes promoted by the industry. These include, but are not limited to, the FMI Foundation, Western Association of Food Chains scholarships and Network of Executive Women internships.
Dinner attendees included representatives from FMI member retail and wholesale companies, in addition to representatives from trade associations and other organizations.
Bill Kies, co-founder and manager of the Friends Dinner, and principal at Kies Consulting, served as master of ceremonies.
