WOODBRIDGE, N.J. -- Pathmark Stores here is testing two electronic marketing programs, SN has learned.

wspaper, is being tested in four stores on Staten Island, N.Y. A card-based frequent-shopper program also is undergoing a pilot test in "an isolated location," said Margaret Bigley, director of sales and electronic marketing at Pathmark.

The Staten Island tests have been running for about four-and-a-half months.

"We saw a lot of opportunities in electronic marketing," Bigley said. "There are a lot of vendors pushing a lot of products. There's a lot out there right now. We like to think we're running ahead of the industry."
