LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets is giving out free private-label versions of national-brand items so that shoppers can compare which they prefer.

“We’re so confident about our Publix brand that we’ll give it to you free so you can compare it to the national brand,” Publix writes in promotional materials. “We think you’ll prefer Publix.”

Free private-label products are given to those who buy several items in a Mexican-themed meal, including McCormick chili mix, Kraft deluxe macaroni and cheese, Joan of Arc chili beans and Martha White corn meal mix.

“Buy theirs, get ours free,” according to Publix. The promotion runs through March 6.

Publix runs similar promos several times throughout the year.
