Safeway Canada, which is now a division of Sobey’s, said that stores would continue to offer Air Miles rewards and that customers could still accrue gas discounts with store receipts. The cards can continue to be used at Safeway stores in the U.S., which are operated by Pleasanton, Calif.-based retailer.
“We’ve done an immense amount of research with our customers, asking them what’s really important to them and what they would like to see,” a spokeswoman for Safeway Canada told Global News. “It’s always hard to predict the future of what other grocers might do.”
Sobey’s completed its acquisition of Safeway Canada in November.
