Spartan debuted the cards at its Glen's division last year and has expanded the program to other banners.

"Unlike other programs, VG's 'yes Rewards' combines discounts with the opportunity earn free groceries, save money on fuel and medications, and join specialty programs like our Baby, Milk and Caesar clubs," said Alan Hartline, executive vice president, marketing and merchandising, Spartan Stores.

VG's is scheduled to launch the program Jan. 9 with a sweepstakes that runs through March 19. Benefits of the program include a 10-cent fuel discount for every $50 in groceries; free select diabetic and antibiotic medications and prenatal vitamins; double manufacturer coupons; and club bonuses, such as a $10 gift card with the purchase of $100 in Baby Club merchandise.
