COPPELL, Texas -- Minyard Food Stores here recently broke ground for a new, full-service supermarket in the Fair Park section of Dallas, the first major grocery store to be built in that area in 30 years.
The new store, located in the southern part of the city, is scheduled to open in June 1995. The area is full of little mom-and-pop stores, but has no supermarket, according to Angie Drake, a Minyard spokeswoman.
The new store will be 50,000 square feet, with a full-service pharmacy, floral department, bakery, deli with sit-down dining, service center, ready-to-eat pizza shop and a full-service poultry case.
Minyard officials called the new store a symbol of the company's commitment to the community. "We believe this neighborhood can and will support a super combo store like the one we are building," said Liz Minyard, co-chairwoman. "We already have two other stores in the area, so we are confident that we can meet the needs of our clientele."
Minyard operates 80 grocery stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, under the banners of Minyard Food Stores, Sack 'n Save Food Stores and Carnival Food Stores.
