Aldi Goes Deep With Holiday Toy Discounts

BATAVIA, Ill. — Aldi reported yesterday that it will heavily discount an array of popular toys during the holiday shopping season. The retailer said it will price about 60 well-known toys at up to 58% less than the big-box discount stores. Beginning this weekend, the selection will include the Star Wars Transformer Figures at $9.99 vs. $14.99 to $15.94; the Hannah Montana Electric Guitar at $16.99 vs. $24.88 to $26.99 at competitors; and the Fisher Price Sweet as Me Dolls for $9.99 compared to $16.94 and $16.99 at other stores. As of Nov. 9, other products going on sale will include the Vtech Nitro Notebook Computers for $29.99 vs. $49.99 at competitors; the Cars Radio Control Little Rides for $9.99 vs. as much as $15.99 at other retailers; and the Cozums Christmas Plush for $2.99 compared to $5 to $6.99 at competitors, a 41% to 58% difference, Aldi reported. “Aldi is a place that can help all families stretch their holiday dollars,” said Joan Kavanaugh, vice president of corporate purchasing. “There’s a lot more you can do for your children when toys are this much less expensive.”
