Big Y Sells Newtown T-Shirts

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Big Y stores sold 2,810 T-shirts whose proceeds will go to a Newtown scholarship fund.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Proceeds from the sale of 2,810 T-shirts at Big Y Stores will go to a Newtown scholarship fund.

The black T-shirts feature a green ribbon and white lettering that reads, “We are Newtown 12.14.12." They were hung at cashier stations and sold for $20 each.

“A big thanks to everyone for the incredibly generous contribution,” Big Y wrote on its Facebook page.

While the shirts are no longer available for sale in Big Y stores, they can still be purchased at www.wearenewtown.org.

Created in honor of the lives lost during the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., the "We Are Newtown Memorial Scholarship" will raise money for Newtown students looking to pursue a career in education or teaching.
