Star Fine Foods, one of America’s providers of distinctive olive oils, vinegars and other specialty Mediterranean foods, will donate $60,000 in 2015 regardless of sales to Susan G. Komen in support of the nonprofit’s mission to save lives and end breast cancer. Part of a successful partnership between Borges USA - Star Fine Foods and Komen that began in 2014, the contribution will exceed the California-based company’s past year’s donation to the nonprofit by 140 percent. Locally, Star will also be a sponsor for the 17th Annual Susan G. Komen Central Valley Race for the Cure, which will be held Oct. 24. During October, green will be swapped out for pink on the labels of STAR Extra Virgin Olive Oil and other select food items from the Star Fine Foods and Cara Mia brands to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The pink labels will appear on all 500 ml bottles of STAR Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 12-ounce bottles of STAR Red Wine Vinegar and 8.5-ounce bottles of STAR Balsamic Vinegar, and will also be seen on jars of Cara Mia Marinated Artichoke Hearts. These specially labeled items will be presented in colorful displays created just for the month. “Our olive oil and other specialty foods are staples of a Mediterranean tradition that offers a multitude of health benefits—one of which may include a reduced risk of breast cancer,” says Eduard Badia, president/CEO of Borges USA - Star Fine Foods. “We’re making the retail grocery aisles a little rosier this time of year to raise awareness of breast cancer and to highlight healthful food choices while supporting the ongoing efforts of Susan G. Komen.” Carrie Glasscock, managing director, corporate relations at Susan G. Komen says: “In 2015, it’s estimated that there will be nearly 232,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer and more than 40,000 breast cancer deaths among U.S. women. At the same time, breast cancer mortality has decreased by 34 percent since the early nineties due to improved breast cancer treatment and early detection. The continued support of our committed partners such as Borges USA - Star Fine Foods enables us to provide real-time help to millions affected by the disease while putting more funds toward breast cancer research to benefit the world."
