TOKYO -- Daiei Inc. here will open its second Kou's membership warehouse club July 1 in Nanko, a suburb of Osaka.

Daiei, Japan's largest supermarket chain and retailer, is said to be encouraged by the performance of its existing Kou's Club, which opened in late 1992. The Kobe club has almost 160,000 members, who pay an annual fee of 3,000 yen (about $28.25 at current exchange rates). In the half year from September 1993 through February 1994, the Kobe club generated sales of more than $57 million, including food sales of $23.8 million, according to Daiei.
