DeLaurentiis Cuts to the Point
January 1, 2018
From book signings to television appearances, Giada DeLaurentiis has been making the rounds promoting her new book, Giada’s Feel Good Food. This weekend DeLaurentiis was filming a live Thanksgiving special for the Food Network with Bobby Flay, Alton Brown and Ina Garten when the knife she was using to carve the turkey slipped and sliced her finger. Luckily, her viewers were spared the bit of turkey-related trauma thanks to a well-timed commercial break. DeLaurentiis was a good sport about the painful mishap; not only did she return to the taping just 15 minutes later, she also posted a before and after pic of her wounded pointer on Instagram (where the chef frequently posts pics of her fancy manis), joking “an adjustment to my normal mani!” Fellow chef Alton Brown tweeted, “We did locate the end of Giada's left index finger in the stuffing. Rushing to hospital now.” DeLaurentiis later retweeted his comment with a smiley face. Since she’s obviously laughing about it now, it’s safe to say that we can too. You see, when I find heard about the accident, I immediately thought of the Saturday Night Live “The French Chef” skit where Dan Aykroyd plays Julia Child. Dressed in drag with a falsetto voice to match, Aykroyd does a mock recreation of an actual episode of Child’s famous cooking show only, in this version, the chef cuts herself and hilarity ensues. Jokes and parodies aside, it really is important to be careful with knives in the kitchen. You’re more likely to cut yourself with a dull knife than a sharp one, so make sure your tools are up to snuff when you start to carve into your bird this Thursday. And, while it seems simple, always pay attention to what you’re doing. After all, there are no commercial breaks in the kitchen.
