SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Penn Traffic Co. here said last week that Claude J. Incaudo will retire as president and chief executive officer on Jan. 28.
He will be succeeded by John T. Dixon, president of the company's P&C Food Markets and Quality Markets divisions. Dixon has also been elected to Penn Traffic's board and will report to Gary D. Hirsch, chairman.
Incaudo, 55, will continue as a Penn Traffic director and will become a consultant to the company.
Incaudo, a 17-year veteran of Penn Traffic, has been president and CEO of the parent company since 1990.
Dixon, 55, was named president of Quality Markets, Jamestown, N.Y., in 1992, and added the title of P&C president in 1993. P&C is based in Syracuse, N.Y.
Succeeding Dixon as president of both P&C and Quality Markets will be Roy Flood, 53, since 1989 executive vice president of sales and merchandising at another Penn Traffic division, Big Bear Stores, Columbus, Ohio. Flood has also been appointed a senior vice president of Penn Traffic.
In his new post Flood will report to Dixon. No successor was named to Flood's former position at Big Bear.
Penn Traffic also named three executives as senior vice presidents of the parent company, each with additional responsibilities:
Raymond J. Heath, president of Riverside Markets, DuBois, Pa., who will continue to be responsible for the integration of Insalaco Markets, Pittston, Pa., acquired in 1993. He will also be responsible for the assimilation of 45 Acme Markets in north-central Pennsylvania and southern New York that Penn Traffic is acquiring from American Stores Co., Salt Lake City, early in 1995, Hirsch pointed out.
John E. Josephson, president of Big Bear, who will continue to oversee the rollout across the company of Big Bear's "Plus" format, which features a wider assortment of nonfood categories. He will also assume responsibilities for development and implementation of corporate initiatives related to logistics and inventory management, Hirsch said.
Eugene R. Sunderhaft, vice president of finance and chief financial officer, who will continue to hold those posts. He will also assume responsibility, formerly held by Incaudo, for the company's management information systems function, Hirsch said.
Heath, Josephson and Sunderhaft will report to Dixon.
In other changes, Randall Sweeney, general manager of Quality Markets, and Joseph Zoldi, general manager of Insalaco, have been named vice presidents of the parent company. They will continue to report to the presidents of their respective divisions -- Sweeney to Flood and Zoldi to Heath, who oversees Insalaco.
And in another action last week, Penn Traffic said it filed an application to list its common stock on the New York Stock Exchange. The company expects to begin trading on the NYSE under the symbol "PNF" in late December.
