GOODLETTESVILLE, Tenn. — A Dollar General executive has written a book about overcoming adversity in buisness and personal life that made it up to No. 4 on Amazon’s list of best-selling business memoirs after it was released this month.
Bob Ravener
In the book — "Up! The Difference Between Today and Tomorrow Is You" — Bob Ravener, executive vice president and chief people officer of Dollar General Corp., recalls how he overcame an impoverished childhood in an abusive family with an alcoholic father, gained confidence through a stint in the Navy and eventually rose up in the corporate ranks.

“Bob’s story is an example of ‘iron will’ over and against a set of circumstances that would overwhelm most people, and it could easily have led to tragedy instead of triumph,” wrote Rick Dreiling, chairman and chief executive officer, Dollar General, in an introductory note in the book.
A portion of the sales from each book are being donated to charities.
