Report: Lewis Back at Consumers
. Lewis has reportedly returned to Consumers Markets here as president.
Lewis left the 23-store chain last summer to become executive vice president and chief operating officer of Delchamps, Mobile, Ala. At the time, he was chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Lewis left Delchamps last October, citing differences in management philosophy.
Jack Hubbs, the successor to Lewis as president of Consumers Markets, left the retailer in March to join Target Stores, Minneapolis, as its supercenter grocery director.
That opened the way for Lewis to return to his position as president of Consumers, industry sources told SN.
Lewis could not be reached for comment last week. Officials at Consumers, which operates 19 stores in southern Missouri and four in northern Arkansas, declined to comment on the report.
Randall's Appoints Merchandising VP
HOUSTON -- Randall's Food Markets here has named Terry Poyner vice president of merchandising and category management, a new position.
Poyner had been serving as vice president of special projects, working on the research and development of Efficient Consumer Response for Randall's. In his new position, Poyner will be responsible for the implementation of ECR in the areas of pricing, procurement and category management. He will continue to report to Joe Livorsi, Randall's senior vice president of sales and operations.
Affiliated Names Operations Director
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Affiliated Foods Southwest here has named Edward M. Sanders director of operations.
Sanders succeeds Frank Newton, former vice president and director of operations, whose responsibilities included warehouse operations, transportation, reclamation center and produce prepacks.
Affiliated has given Newton a new position and title as vice president and director of transportation. He continues to oversee transportation, the reclamation center and produce prepacks.
Sanders was director of perishables buying for Supervalu's Hammond warehouse in Indianola, Miss.
Sanders and Newton report to Jerry W. Davis, president and chief operating officer of Affiliated, a cooperative wholesale distributor serving more than 360 retail members in a six-state area.
Slate of Officers Elected by NGA
RESTON, Va. -- Charles Butson has been elected chairman of the 1994-1995 board of directors of the National Grocers Association.
Butson is president and treasurer of Butson's Supermarkets, Woodsville, N.H.
He succeeds Everett W. Dingwell, corporate chairman of Certified Grocers of California, Los Angeles.
Other new officers are John S. "Steve" Herbison, president and chief executive officer of U.R.M. Stores, Spokane, Wash., NGA vice chairman, and Larry D. Contos, president and CEO of Pay Less Supermarkets, Anderson, Ind., NGA secretary-treasurer.
Besides Dingwell, the other members of the board's executive committee are Thomas D. Goodner, president of Goodner's Supermarkets, Duncan, Okla.; William E. Farmer, president and CEO of Fairway Foods, Minneapolis, and Thomas K. Zaucha, NGA's president and CEO.
NGA's newly elected state association executive is Steve McCoid, president of the Association of Oregon Food Industries, Salem, Ore.
Two new retail members and two wholesale members were elected to the association's board.
