Vons Taps VP of Food Service

Cos. here has given Peter "Skip" Scheidt the new title of vice president of food service and has expanded his responsibilities to include service delis in addition to bakeries.

Scheidt, who has been with Vons for 18 years, was most recently vice president of hot bakeries.

The former vice president of service deli, James Pierson, has been named vice president of the Expo retail business unit, a new position. He has been with the company for 25 years.

The changes result from a company reorganization that includes combining service deli departments and bakery departments under food service, a spokeswoman said.

Scheidt reports to William Gensemer, group vice president of grocery, frozen and dairy-deli.

RBA Names Membership Director

LAUREL, Md. -- The Retail Bakers of America here has named Peggy M. Hoffman membership director.

She was communications director for M Technology Association, Silver Spring, Md., and had previously served as communications director for RBA from 1985 to 1989.

At M Technology, Hoffman's responsibilities included member recruitment, retention and services.

At RBA, Hoffman succeeds Bill North-Rudin, who has left to accept a position with a Washington-based association of public accountants.

In her new position, Hoffman will report to Peter Houstle, executive vice president of the trade group.

Former H-E-B Exec Starts Firm

ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Ken Hanne, former director of bakery marketing for H-E-B Grocery Co., San Antonio, has opened his own brokerage firm here.

The new company, Hanne & Associates, specializes in deli and bakery products for the supermarket industry.

Hanne had been with H-E-B for four years. Previously, he was director of bakery and deli for Advantage Food Stores, operated by Lucky Stores' southern California division, Buena Park, Calif. He also was a deli specialist for Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. for more than 20 years.
