Lawson Is Senior VP at Fleming
s. here has named William M. Lawson Jr. senior vice president of corporate development and international operations, a new position.
Lawson is responsible for identifying business ventures offering growth opportunities for the company that are compatible with its strategic business plan, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures -- both domestic and international -- and start-ups, Fleming said.
Lawson has been a practicing attorney in Phoenix since 1976, specializing in, among other areas, general business planning, corporate partnership and limited liability company formation and planning. He reports to Robert E. Stauth, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Fleming.
Paul Poley has been named director of change management, a new position at Fleming. His responsibilities include evaluating organizational dynamics, overseeing the performance of associates and applying established change-management principles.
Poley had been human resources director for Fleming's mid-America region, which has been discontinued. He reports to Larry Wagner, senior vice president of human resources.
Bruno's Reassigns Johnson, Young
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Bruno's here has named Robert F. Johnson senior vice president of marketing.
Johnson, who has 40 years of industry experience, is responsible for corporate merchandising, advertising and marketing. He reports to Ronald G. Bruno, chairman and chief executive officer of the 258-store chain.
Johnson previously was regional vice president, responsible for the company's 55 Piggly Wiggly stores in Georgia.
Marvin D. Young Jr. succeeds Johnson as a regional vice president, overseeing the Georgia Piggly Wiggly units. He previously held the corporate marketing position that Johnson is taking over, but with the title vice president of marketing.
Young began his Bruno's career in 1987. In his new position, he reports to Paul F. Garrison, president and chief operating officer.
Additionally, Brad Carter has been named area manager for Bruno's 16 Atlanta-area stores, a new position. He formerly was director of supercenter sales, a position that has been divided among several district managers. Carter reports to Garrison.
Dennis Edwin Smith has been named district manager for Bruno's 12 FoodMax warehouse stores in Nashville and Chattanooga, Tenn. He reports to Mike Chandler, vice president of Bruno's Region 4, which incorporates all FoodMax stores.
Smith joined Bruno's earlier this year after working at Xtra Super Food Centers, a division of Pueblo Xtra International based in Pompano Beach, Fla.
Smart & Final Taps Head at Distributor
LOS ANGELES -- Smart & Final here has named John Goneau president of Port Stockton Food Distributors, its food-service distribution company based in Stockton, Calif.
Goneau succeeds A.L. Del Prete, the founder of Port Stockton. Del Prete will retire July 29 as the division's president and chief operating officer.
Goneau reports to Roger M. Laverty 3rd, president and chief executive officer of Smart & Final.
Goneau formerly was vice president of warehousing and distribution.
