Brookshire Taps Operations Chief

has been named chief operating officer, a new position, at Brookshire Bros. here. Novak, formerly director of store formats for Supervalu, Minneapolis, will be in charge of operations at the company's 63 stores, which include 57 in east Texas and five in Louisiana. Prior to joining Supervalu, Novak spent a year at Furr's Supermarkets, Albuquerque, as vice president, and 11 years at Randalls Food Markets, Houston, ultimately as a district manager. He will report to the chain's executive committee, which consists of W. Eugene Brookshire, chairman; R.A. Brookshire, president; Ray Campbell, senior vice president of retail operations, and Marvin Colmer, senior vice president of buying and merchandising.

B&B Cash Names President and CEO

TAMPA, Fla. -- B&B Cash Grocery Stores here has named Joseph Andrew "Jay" Bever Jr. president and chief executive officer. He also was chosen to serve on the board of directors.

He takes over the president position from his uncle, Charles "C.C." Bever, who has retired from the company. He succeeds his father, J. Andrew Bever, in the CEO position. J. Andrew Bever continues to serve as chairman of the board.

In assuming the positions, Jay Bever becomes the fourth generation of the Bever family to lead the company, which was started by his great grandparents 71 years ago.

Before his promotion, Jay Bever served as vice president of operations.

Hannaford Appoints McGarvie Senior VP

SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Blythe J. McGarvie has joined Hannaford Bros. Co. here as senior vice president of finance.

McGarvie will assume duties held by Norm Brackett, who currently serves as the company's chief financial officer and will retire sometime in 1995 after approximately 20 years with the company.

After a transition period, McGarvie will assume responsibility for accounting, treasury, information systems and technology, auditing and security. She reports to chief executive officer Hugh Farrington.

Before joining Hannaford, McGarvie was chief administrative officer for the Sara Lee Corp.'s Pacific Rim Group. She also has held financial positions with Kraft General Foods, Pizza Hut and Arthur Anderson and Co.

King Named Albertson's Senior VP

BOISE, Idaho -- Albertson's here has named Richard L. King senior vice president and regional manager, a new position.

King is now responsible for the southern California, northern California and Florida division operations.

King most recently served as group vice president of merchandising. He picked up the new reponsibilities in order to gain additional operational experience, a spokesperson said. He assumes many of the duties formerly held by Carl Pennington.

Pennington, who was senior vice president and regional manager, has been named senior vice president of corporate merchandising, a new title.

Pennington is now responsible for corporate merchandising and marketing programs. He picks up many responsibilities formerly held by King. In addition, he oversees the operations of all Max Food & Drug stores in Texas, Colorado and California.

King has been with Albertson's since 1966, and Pennington since 1963.

King and Pennington both report to president John Carley.
