Albertson's Schiff Quits Senior VP Post

cently announced the resignation of Ron Schiff, senior vice president of drug and nonfood merchandising.

Schiff joined Albertson's in July 1991 after serving as chairman and chief executive officer of Payless Drug Stores. His duties at Albertson's will be assumed by other officers of Albertson's on a temporary basis until a replacement is named.

According to Gary Michael, Albertson's chairman, Schiff "is interested in once again running a company, and preferably one in which he has primary ownership."

Price Chopper's Mere Retires

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper Supermarkets here announced the retirement of Robert Mere. Mere was director of pharmacy merchandising.

He joined Price Chopper in October of 1987. No replacement has been named, the company reported.

Kolavo to Be Strack Supervisor

HIGHLAND, Ind. -- Joe Kolavo will be appointed general merchandise and HBC buyer/supervisor at Strack & Van Til Supermarkets here after the first of the year.

His current post is nonfood buyer. In his new post he will be succeeding Jim Johnsen, who is retiring. Kolavo, a 16-year veteran of the company, said he has been working with Johnsen for the past year to smooth the transition.
