VP Added at Super Kmart Centers

as named Dennis V. Carter to the new position of vice president of food for Super Kmart Centers, effective next week.

Carter joins Kmart after 23 years with Kash n' Karry, where he most recently was executive vice president of operations and a member of the board of directors.

He will report to Ronald J. Floto, executive vice president of Kmart and president of Super Kmart Centers.

Floto's responsibilities have been expanded under a new, five-man management structure Kmart calls its "platform team." He adds distribution centers, inventory management, consumables and commodities merchandise to his corporate and supercenter duties.

Fleming Names Del Regno VP

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Fleming Cos. here has named Nancy Del Regno vice president of corporate communications. She succeeds Ron Frost, whose title was director of corporate communications. Frost has been named director of public affairs, which oversees government relations. That post has been vacant since 1993. Del Regno was manager of communications services for PepsiCo Food Systems Worldwide, Dallas. Frost reports to Del Regno, and Del Regno reports to Robert E. Stauth, Fleming chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Safeway Appoints Senior VP

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Safeway here has named Melissa Plaisance senior vice president of finance and public affairs, a new position.

She was vice president of investor relations, and retains those responsibilities in her new post.

Plaisance reports to Kenneth Oder, executive vice president.

In another change, Brian Dowling, formerly manager of corporate public affairs, has been named director of public affairs for Safeway's 124-store Eastern division in Landover, Md. Dowling succeeds Larry Johnson, who recently returned to work after an illness and remains part of the public affairs department.

Dowling reports to Jim Donald, the division manager. In addition, he retains certain corporate responsibilities for government relations, and reports to Plaisance.

Debra Lambert succeeds Dowling as director of corporate public affairs. She was director of public affairs for Safeway's northern California division.

Lambert retains those duties while adding the corporate responsibilities. She reports to Plaisance.

Winn-Dixie Names Unit Controllers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores here has named controllers for two divisions.

Doug Flick has rejoined the Louisville division to serve as controller. He reports to Ron George, division president.

Flick was most recently assistant controller in the Atlanta division. Flick succeeds Rafe Sanson, who has been named controller of the New Orleans division. He reports to Roy Brocato, division president.

The position in the New Orleans office was held by John Coyle, who has retired after 33 years with the company.

Winn-Dixie operates 1,140 stores throughout the South. The Louisville division is comprised of 60 stores; the Louisiana division of 88 stores.

Senior VP Appointed at Hannaford

SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Hannaford Bros. here said that Michael Strout has rejoined the company as senior vice president of human resources.

Strout succeeds an associate who left the company. He reports to Hugh Farrington, chief executive officer.

Strout most recently was senior vice president of human resources for Tops Markets, Buffalo, N.Y. From 1985 to 1989, he held numerous positions at Hannaford, including director of human resource operations.
