PATCH LEAVES FOODMAXX VP POST TO HELP HUNGRY

MODESTO, Calif. — Art Patch, vice president of FoodMaxx, the 44-unit price-impact grocery division of Save Mart Supermarkets here, has announced his departure at the end of this year to pursue his personal mission to help the hungry. Patch currently is on the board of directors of San Joaquin/Stanislaus County Food Banks and will take an active role in helping them design an infrastructure to deliver surplus food to hungry people. Patch joined Save Mart in 1992 as vice president of Save Mart Operations, and has worked during his career at Safeway, Lucky Stores and Appletree Markets. No one has yet been named to succeed him.

GONZALES TO RETIRE AS SR. VP OF HR AT SAFEWAY

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway here said last week that Dick W. Gonzales, senior vice president of human resources, will retire effective Dec. 31. Gonzales began his career with Safeway in 1986, as a director of compensation and benefits for The Vons Cos. A successor has not been named.
