MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Finast, based here, a subsidiary of Ahold USA, Parsippany, N.J., promoted its pharmacies during October with a contest that offered a year's worth of free prescriptions at each participating pharmacy. Finast has 23 pharmacies.

According to a newspaper ad in the Oct. 26 Cleveland Plain Dealer, contestants could win free prescriptions for one year, up to a $500 limit. "The contest just ended and we're still counting up entry forms," said a pharmacist at an Ohio store. "We had a lot of interest from new people and our regular patients." The pharmacist said contestants' names would be used to form a database for promotional mailings.

Finast's corporate office declined to comment on the promotion.
