FMI Training Course Returns
January 1, 2018
ARLINGTON, VA -- The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) today announced the return of the Food Safety Fundamentals training program as an essential component of food safety and sanitation programs for all food establishments. The program offers a comprehensive textbook and a companion training kit for instructors, including a lesson plan, slides and an optional course syllabus for either 8-hour or 16-hour training sessions.
Previously known as Food Safety Essentials and Fundamentals, the popular training course is completely updated to the current FDA Food Code and re-released under the SafeMark line of training resources. The newly revised Food Safety Fundamentals training program brings back the lead authors, David McSwane and Richard Linton. For those students seeking food safety manager certification, a nationally recognized and accredited companion exam is available through the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals.
"We worked closely with the authors to design this training program to help all food establishments, including restaurants, food service, hospitality, culinary, and convenience stores, to achieve their food safety goals and ensure their associates are properly trained," said Jill Hollingsworth, group vice president of food safety programs at FMI. "Fundamentals targets prevention and control of the risk factors identified by the FDA. It is an important way to integrate food safety into all aspects of a food business."
Food Safety Fundamentals is designed for the adult learner and includes activities and examples to enhance interactive instruction. It includes real-world case studies, easy-to-read charts and industry photos from foodservice and retail establishments. Fundamentals is designed to make managers knowledgeable about food hazards, while emphasizing proper food handling practices. Hollingsworth added, "Food Safety Fundamentals makes an excellent classroom textbook as its comprehensive approach is recommended for teaching at both the high school and college level to prepare our next generation of food safety experts."
