CERRITOS, Calif. -- Food 4 Less, La Habra, Calif., was the big winner in the Southern California Frozen Food Council's competition for efforts in promoting March as National Frozen Food Month.

won in the category for chains with more than 124 stores. The awards were presented here at the group's 28th annual Merchandising and Advertising Awards Banquet.

More than 700 clerks, salespeople, brokers and retail chains entered the contest and received more than $13,000 in prizes. First-place winners received $1,500. Second-place winners received $1,000. Third-place winners received $500 and runners-up received $50 each.

The awards for best advertising support by chains went to Vons Cos., Arcadia (more than 124 stores); Boys/Viva (11 to 124 stores) and King Foods, Highland Park (fewer than 11 stores).

The award for the best display by a salesperson went to Ciara Kind of Kelly-Clarke, Los Angeles. Luis Garcia of the Boys store in Hawthorne won for the best display built by a clerk. The winner for the best display built by a team went to Shelly Alchadeft of Campbell Soup and Patricia Miranda of Lucky No. 285 in Camarillo. The award for the best overall support by a broker went to Normack & Associates, Culver City.
