HILLSDALE, Mich. -- Funeral services have been held here for Laurence J. Taylor, a longtime consultant to the Food Marketing Institute.
MI's Professional Management Seminars at Hillsdale College here. The seminars -- an intensive five-day study course held twice a year -- were designed to help industry members with management potential to hone their management skills. The seminar has continued since Taylor's retirement.
Because of his skills, Taylor was dubbed "the Great Communicator" by FMI associates.
When he retired in 1988 he was presented with FMI's Distinguished Service Award and lauded as "the single most important teacher of communications skills in our industry" by then-FMI Chairman Allen I. Bildner.
Before becoming a consultant, Taylor was an educator and administrator at Hillsdale College here.
Among his survivors are his wife, Arlene, who resides in Hillsdale.
