MARTIN RINI

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- Services for Martin Rini, a supermarket pioneer in the Cleveland area, were to be held here Aug. 27. Rini, 93, died following cardiac arrest Aug. 24. Rini began his grocery career working in his father's store on the West Side of Cleveland in the 1920s. In 1957, he and his brothers, Anthony and Michael, founded Rini Supermarkets Inc. Rini also was instrumental in forming the Stop-n-Shop Association, a voluntary group of independent operators that worked together to compete against larger chain-store retailers.
