MESA, Ariz. -- John E. Moll has resigned from the board of Megafoods Stores here -- an action the company said last week was unrelated to its filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Miller said Moll had resigned a week before the events that precipitated Megafoods' bankruptcy filing last Wednesday. Those events included a dispute over contract terms with Fleming Cos., Oklahoma City. Moll previously had been president and chief operating officer at Fleming.

Moll could not be reached for comment.

Moll joined Fleming following its acquisition of Malone & Hyde, Memphis, Tenn., in 1988. He was named president and chief operating officer in November 1989, a position he held until leaving the company in July 1992.
