NextFoods, makers of GoodBelly probiotic drinks and supplements formulated for daily digestive health, was awarded first place in Community Food Share’s 20th annual Compete to Beat Hunger Corporate Challenge. Corporate employees participated in a variety of activities to collect food and raise money for families in need of food assistance in Colorado's Boulder and Broomfield counties. By joining and leading teams, organizing events and collecting food, NextFoods earned the most points per employee on behalf of Community Food Share. “Here at NextFoods, our mission is to foster the continuous improvement of human nutrition, so we’re honored to take part in this effort in our own backyard,” says Alan Murray, CEO of NextFoods. “This challenge was the perfect fit for GoodBelly and our group of fun-loving employees who are also looking to make an impact. Our team put a lot of heart into Community Food Share’s Corporate Challenge, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results.” This year, the challenge raised over $400,000 and collected 60,000 pounds of food to provide 1.2 million meals to those in need of assistance. “Corporate Challenge is important because in our community today, one in six people are living in poverty. Many people are surprised by this number. But the reality is that poverty is very hidden and also very real in our area,” says Susan Finesilver of The Corporate Challenge. “For example, 79 percent of those that we serve have to choose between purchasing food or paying for utilities; 61 percent have to choose between purchasing food or medicine. The Corporate Challenge is a key annual initiative in providing assistance to our community, and we have sincere appreciation to the 24 participating companies.” Community Food Share’s mission is to be a leader in our community’s efforts to end hunger in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. Serving the community for 34 years, Community Food Share distributes over 9 million pounds annually, valued at $15.3 million. Food is distributed through a network of 43 partner agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens/meal programs, shelters, and emergency food programs) and several direct service programs targeting at-risk, vulnerable populations. Based in Boulder, Colo., NextFoods is committed to developing a series of world-class, highly nutritious, functional foods, while using sustainable, socially responsible practices whenever possible, say company officials. GoodBelly offers probiotic drinks and a first for the brand, a new Probiotic Supplement. Each serving of GoodBelly packs 20-50 billion live and active probiotic cultures to promote healthy digestive and immune systems, as 70 percent of the body’s immune system resides in the digestive tract.
