The Olympics are almost over—this is the last weekend—but before we say so long to speed skating and curling there are a few more days for athletes’ dreams to come true. Olympic Snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg won gold in slope style at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. He then took to Twitter to broadcast his Olympic wish for his medal to be made of bacon. 1896858_624908250925068_2115030982_n Lucky for Kotsenburg we live in a time when social media is a powerful tool and the internet was happy to grant his wish. @NBCOlympics replied to his wish the very same day by tweeting a pic of the snack-loving snowboarder with bacon photoshopped onto his medal, but that was just a quick fix—like microwaving bacon in college. The folks at Godshall’s, a meat manufacturer based out of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, on the other other hand are not messing around; they heard about Kotsenburg’s plea and got to work on procuring the pork version of his medal. Godshall’s was started from a single butcher shop in 1945 so meat has been their medium for almost 70 years and the medal that they came up with is a work of art. On February 17th they posted a pic of their creation to Facebook and the internet has been buzzing about the bacon ever since. Last night Kostenburg was a guest on Conan O’Brien’s show where the comedian bestowed the bacon medal upon the snowboarder. Talk about bringing home the bacon.
