McKesson Taps Smith's Veteran

SAN FRANCISCO -- McKesson Drug Co. has named James Hallsey senior vice president of Valu-Rite Pharmacies, the drug wholesaler's national voluntary chain of nearly 4,600 independent pharmacies. Hallsey was senior vice president of Smith's Food & Drug Centers, Salt Lake City, overseeing nonfood, until last October. Hallsey spent his entire business career at Smith's, having joined the 129-store chain 32 years ago.

Hallsey's appointment to this new post marks the creation of a separate Valu-Rite organization within McKesson. The Valu-Rite provider network was formed to help independent pharmacists compete for managed care business.

Copley Appoints Donald Kowalski

CANTON, Mass. -- Copley Pharmaceutical has named Donald Kowalski to the new position of director of trade relations. Kowalski has 31 years experience in the pharmaceutical wholesale business, most recently as director of pharmaceutical merchandising for McKesson Drug Co., San Francisco.
