Combs Named D&W Director

- D&W Food Centers here named Tom Combs senior director of retail operations, a new position. Combs, who is a pharmacist, remains director of pharmacy sales. In his new position, Combs reports to Doug Blease, executive vice president.

Finast Appoints 2 Managers

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Finast here, a subsidiary of Ahold USA, has named Stephen Davis manager of pharmacy, overseeing business contracts, and Charles Blake manager of professional services, in charge of pharmacist relations. Davis had been nonfood buyer. Blake, a pharmacist, was previously pharmacy supervisor. Blake reports to Davis, who reports to Bill Clarke, vice president of nonfood.

Davis and Blake succeed Ron Foster, former director of pharmacy, who is now a staff pharmacist at Finast's Lakeview and Superior store in Cleveland.

Laughrey Is Honored

PHILADELPHIA -- J. Bruce Laughrey, president and chief executive officer of Medi-Span Inc., Indianapolis, was awarded the 1994 Bowl of Hygeia by Wyeth-Ayerst at its headquarters here Oct. 10. The award is given each year to honor one pharmacist from each state for outstanding community service in pharmacy. In addition to his duties at Medi-Span, Laughrey is a trustee of the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs.

NCPDP Names Stember President

PHOENIX -- The National Council for Prescription Drug Programs here has named Lee Ann Stember president. She has been the association's executive director since 1981.

PCS Hires Clinical Pharmacist

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- PCS Health Systems here named Tim Watson clinical pharmacist for PCS Clinical Management Services, West, a new position. He reports to Elizabeth Linehan, clinical operations manager. Watson's main responsibilities are supporting PCS's Blue Cross/Blue Shield federal employee program, and implmenting a drug utilization review program for selected plan sponsors. Watson was formerly president of the American Pharmaceutical Association/Academy of Students of Pharmacy.
