CHARLESTON, S.C. — Piggly Wiggly will soon debut a winter-style bock beer with a touch of holiday spice brewed locally by the Thomas Creek Brewery.

Part of its seasonal store-brand lineup, the Seven Swines 'A Swigging beer replaces last year's holiday brew which blended noble and American hops with a touch of holiday spice to deliver a light crisp taste. The Bock beer, in contrast, is fuller-bodied, Nick Long, beer and wine category manager for Piggly Wiggly told SN.

"It's a little bit darker and it's what people go for this time of year," said Long of his favorite craft style. "Granted, we live in South Carolina and it's not extremely cold but people may transition out of a hefeweizen to a bock or porter or stout."

Seven Swines was a hit with shoppers last year due to its festive packaging featuring pigs with ice skates and antlers drinking out of beer mugs. The retailer plans to retain the same packaging this year, Long said.
