MAUMEE, Ohio (FNS) -- At a Jan. 9 annual meeting, shareholders of Seaway Food Town here will consider a successor for company co-founder Paul L. Pope, who is retiring from the board after 40 years.

Stockholders also will vote on whether to re-elect Wallace D. Iott, 81, who helped establish the 43-unit chain with Pope in 1957. Also up for re-election is David J. Walrod, 50, executive vice president of operations.

The meeting is slated to be held at Brandywine Country Club in Maumee, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. If elected, all three directors would serve three-year terms ending in 1999.

Pope, 85, a former vice president and corporate secretary, will continue to advise the board in a nonvoting capacity as a director emeritus. His nominated successor is W. Geoffrey Lyden 3rd, 44, chairman and chief executive officer of Lyden Co., Toledo, Ohio. Iott has been on the nine-member board for 40 years. His son, Richard B. Iott, 45, currently is Seaway Food Town's CEO and president.
