SIAL Paris kicked off its 2016 show on the United Nations' World Food Day, providing hundreds of retail buyers and members from all food sectors, all across the world with the solutions required to feed the world for the next 30 years. The show, which was held Oct. 16-20 at the Paris Nord Villepinte in Paris, featured 7,000 exhibitors (85 percent of which were international) and attracted 155,000 visitors, 70 percent of which were from abroad.

"The SIAL Paris show is an absolutely great success," said Nicolas Trentesaux, director of SIAL Network. "It's not only big in size but also in content."

The show featured 250 "events within the event" that highlighted the food world's economic and political current affairs. In April, journalists from 28 countries met in Paris and presented grocery trends and popular new products from their native countries. At the SIAL Paris exhibition, the information was displayed in the World Tour section on the show floor.

During the April meeting, the 28 World Tour journalist partners voted on the most innovative products introduced around the world in the past year. At an awards ceremony during the show, Trentesaux revealed two winning products.

Spain's Calidad Pascual won a World Tour Award for its Dia Balance brand, which offers specific products and services to help people with diabetes and their families lead a healthy and balanced lifestyle. France's Carrefour Les Gueules Cassées Collective was also named a World Tour Award winner for its Ugly Cereals "that are just as good and cheaper" and emulate the trend of ugly fruits and vegetables being sold in the market to combat food waste. The Ugly Cereals have visual defects, like the "ugly" fruits and vegetables, with the same quality at a third of the price.

The SIAL Network presents seven expositions worldwide, including SIAL Paris, SIAL Canada Montreal and Toronto, SIAL China, SIAL Middle East, SIAL China, SIAL ASEAN Manilla and SIAL InterFOOD in Jakarta. The next SIAL show, Middle East, will be held Dec. 5-7 in Abu Dhabi. SIAL Paris will be held Oct. 21-25, 2018.
