Smithfield Donation Celebrates Farm Fresh Grand Reopening
January 1, 2018
Farm Fresh Food & Pharmacy officially opened the doors to its newly remodeled Virginia Beach, Va. store located at 2110 Great Neck Shopping Center Wednesday, Oct. 7. The renovated store features an expanded assortment of fresh offerings, an improved store design and new décor. To celebrate the grand re-opening, Farm Fresh held a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included remarks by community leaders and Farm Fresh President Micky Nye, as well as special customer promotions and two major donations. “We’re constantly looking for ways to better serve our customers, and our newly renovated Great Neck store underscores this commitment,” Nye says. “With the changes we made, customers will now have access to a broader selection of fresh items throughout the store, and the new look and feel will further enhance their overall shopping experience.” The remodel, which began in August, includes updated décor, new merchandising, and a significant increase in the store’s fresh offerings. Among the enhancements customers will see are:
An expanded produce department, featuring a broader assortment of offerings, more organic items and a new layout
An updated deli area that will better showcase the quality, freshness and variety of offerings, including meats, cheeses, grab-and-go meal solutions and fresh made-in-store sushi
A revamped bakery area that includes new display cases and a new cake decorating station where customers will be able to see Farm Fresh bakers and cake decorators in action every day
Expanded meat, seafood and floral departments
An updated pharmacy
To thank the community for its support and to celebrate the grand re-opening, Farm Fresh presented 5,000 bonus points through its Farm Fresh “1.2.3.4 for the Community” program to several local public and private school partners, including Ocean Lakes High School, Alanton Elementary School, Parish Day School, Great Neck Middle School, Cox High School, First Colonial High School and John B. Dey Elementary School. The points can be redeemed for school supplies and educational equipment. “Giving back to our community has always been an important part of who we are and what we do at Farm Fresh,” says Nye. “We’re thrilled to be able to help our local schools in their efforts to educate our children.” In addition, Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest pork producer and processor, contributed a 25,000-pound protein donation as part of its Helping Hungry Homes program to benefit two local food banks serving southeast Virginia — the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, and the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. “Smithfield has had a great partnership with Farm Fresh for many years, and we share the same values surrounding the importance of community involvement. We are headquartered just up the road in the town of Smithfield, Virginia, so the people who shop at Farm Fresh in southeast Virginia aren’t just customers — they are our neighbors,” says Dennis Pittman, Smithfield Senior Director of Corporate Communications. “Through the Smithfield Helping Hungry Homes program, we have made more than 240 donations to food banks across the country. We are especially thrilled to make this donation with Farm Fresh in our backyard to help celebrate the grand re-opening of this store, and especially to provide over 100,000 servings of much-needed protein to the families in our communities who are in need.” Farm Fresh Food & Pharmacy, part of the SUPERVALU INC. family of grocery stores, operates 41 stores in Hampton Roads and Richmond, Va., and Elizabeth City, N.C.
