MONTREAL — Sobeys and National Bank of Canada here on Tuesday announced a partnership allowing each company to contribute to an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Under the agreement, Sobeys is selling carbon credits produced as result of store improvements to National Bank, allowing the bank to neutralize its emissions.
Marc Poulin, president of Sobeys Quebec, said the agreement was made possible by efforts to reduce greenhouse gas reductions using greener refrigeration already undertaken at 44 IGA stores in Quebec.
“The NBC partnership will facilitate new investments to reduce GHG emissions in most parts of Quebec where our two companies operate, motivating us to continue the efforts we have undertaken voluntarily since the mid-2000s,” Poulin said in a statement.
