RESTON, Va. -- A survey sponsored by the National Grocers Association here revealed that shrink continues to be a growing problem in supermarkets.

shrink amounted to 2.09% of total store sales, according to the 1993 National Supermarket Shrink Survey, conducted by LAM Consulting, Springboro, Ohio.

The report was based on retailer responses from more than 2,600 supermarkets in 42 states. Employee theft accounted for about 56% of shrink reported in the study; shoplifting represented 24%; delivery errors were responsible for 10% and 10% was attributed to damage and other errors in accounting and pricing.
