The two distribution centers set to close, located in Victoria and Donna, Texas, serve 103 supermarkets and 150 convenience stores in south-central Texas and do a combined annual volume of $215 million.
Fleming completed its acquisition of Scrivner here July 19. At the time, it said it would close up to eight Fleming or Scrivner distribution centers to capitalize on synergies.
Fleming officials told SN last week they expect to announce another consolidation "within a month or so" and to have all eight consolidations completed within 18 months.
The facility in Victoria, located southeast of San Antonio and southwest of Houston, is a 284,000-square-foot distribution center near the Gulf of Mexico; the warehouse in Donna is a 180,000-square-foot facility near the Mexican border. Both locations, which were owned by Scrivner, are expected to be sold, a Fleming spokesman said.
Robert E. Stauth, chairman, president and chief executive officer, said Fleming can better serve its customers by combining the business into one larger center.
The Victoria center employs 238 people; the Donna center employs 96. Some employees will be offered opportunities at the San Antonio facility as openings occur, the spokesman said.
