UFCW APPROVES CONTRACTS COVERING NEARLY 250 STORES

NEW YORK -- Members of United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500 here ratified new 33-month contracts with various operators by a vote of 8 to 1, union officials said.

g Kullen Grocery Co., Westbury, N.Y.; Pathmark Stores, Woodbridge, N.J., and Gristedes here. The previous contract expired June 18.

Another 2,000 members of Local 1500 who work for independents are covered by a separate contract that expires in September, according to the UFCW.

Among the items in the new UFCW contracts with the chain operators are wage increases of about $85 per week over the three-year period for assistant store managers and grocery and produce department heads, increases of $75 to $125 for full-time clerks and hourly increases of $1.25 to $2 for part-timers over the life of the contract.
