LUBBOCK, Texas — United Supermarkets on Monday released details of what it calls its “next generation” Market Street store, now under construction here.
The $14 million project includes a 71,238-square-foot Market Street store — which would become the largest in its fleet when open later this year officials said. The site will also include six fuel pumps and a 3,100-square-foot United Express convenience store. The store includes a drive-through pharmacy with twin lanes and redesigned interior departments that officials said will emphasize health and wellness.
“The most significant difference will be in the merchandise presentation. We’re doing a lot of things to create destination points throughout the store, so that guests will feel like they are moving from one department to another as they shop,” Wes Jackson, chief merchandising officer for United Supermarkets, said in a statement.
The store will have a single entrance bringing shoppers directly into produce and floral departments. “Guests will walk into ‘fresh’ the minute they enter the store, produce straight ahead and floral to the right,” Jackson said. “Produce is one of our best departments — a real differentiator for us. It will, we believe, continue to grow in importance for our guests as they become more health-conscious and change the way they eat.”
United operates 51 stores under four banners in Texas. The Lubbock store would be the 11th under the Market Street banner.
