The term "food court" has been difficult for supermarkets to define. Howard Solganik, a supermarket food-service consultant, has come up with this definition: "A food court is a food-service area consisting of two or more food theme segments, with each segment offering a complete meal. The configuration must be easy to understand, easy to shop and often includes a seating area."
