Former Wegmans Pharmacy Executive Joins Shoppers Drug Mart

TORONTO — Mark Valesano, the former senior vice president of pharmacy, health, wellness and beauty at Wegmans Food Markets, last month joined Shoppers Drug Mart as executive vice president, pharmacy. He takes over from Virginia Cirocco, who has decided to leave the position at the end of this month.

Valesano, who served 11 years at Wegmans, will be in charge of all the company’s pharmacy operations. The company, based here, is the licensor of full-service retail drug stores operating under the name Shoppers Drug Mart (Pharmaprix in Québec) with more than 1,119 Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix stores. Fiscal 2008 sales for 53 weeks ending Jan. 3, 2009, were $7.21 billion (U.S.).

Wegmans said it has yet to name a replacement for Valesano.
