SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among U.S. women. During the month of October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Stater Bros. Super Rx Pharmacy will offer a free thirty-day supply, based on common dosing of Tamoxifen, a drug commonly used to treat breast cancer.

Tamoxifen decreases the chance of breast cancer coming back in women who have already received treatment and also helps to prevent breast cancer in women with a high risk of developing breast cancer.  To participate in the program, customers must have a valid doctor's prescription.  No membership or other commitment will be required to obtain the thirty-day supply.

"At some point in their lives almost everyone has been affected by cancer," stated Jack H. Brown, Stater Bros. Chairman and CEO.  "Stater Bros. Supermarkets believes in doing the right thing for the right reason, and we are so proud to be able to assist in the fight against cancer by offering this medication free of charge to those brave women battling this disease."

During the month of October, Stater Bros. Charities, the charitable arm of Stater Bros. Supermarkets, is also raising funds to help fight all forms of cancer by presenting the 3rd Annual Believe Walk, which will take place on Sunday, October 3, 2010, in Redlands California.  For more information, visitwww.believeIE.com.
