Daniel Danker, the former head of product for Uber Eats, has joined rival Instacart this week as its VP of shopper and fulfillment, where he will oversee shopper product development and shopper operations for the San Francisco-based grocery e-commerce platform, the company confirmed.

In this role, Danker will play a critical role in Instacart’s end-to-end shopper experience, developing new product features and services to support Instacart’s community of more than 500,000 contracted shoppers. Danker will report directly to Asha Sharma, Instacart’s newly named chief operating officer and is among a number of key Instacart hires to join in recent months.

Instacart recently said its goal was to increase corporate headcount by 50% this year as it moves to solidify a leadership position in the fast-growing e-grocery business and reportedly prepares for an initial public offering.

At Uber Eats, Danker was instrumental in adding food and grocery delivery capabilities to Uber’s platform, including introduction in the U.S. of the acquired Cornershop. Prior to taking over as head of product for Uber Eats, Danker led product for the driver side of Uber’s business. Before Uber, he led product for Facebook Video. Danker also was the chief product officer for Shazam, general manager at the BBC and led engineering and operations teams at Microsoft.
