SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — IBM on Wednesday announced Price Chopper Supermarkets here has selected the IBM Netezza data warehouse platform to encompass much of the retailer's sales, merchandising and supply chain data, including its perpetual inventory reporting and analysis system.
The perpetual inventory systems supports Price Chopper's robust computer-generated store ordering system, which the chain has not only applied to warehouse-delivered Center Store products but has used to order perishables and direct-store-delivery items.
"We needed a high performance and easy-to-use data warehousing solution to better understand our customers' shopping trends and improve our bottom line," said Greg Zeh, chief information officer for Price Chopper, in a statement. "We had tried other market solutions and they didn't stack up — they were unreliable and complicated."
IBM, Armonk, N.Y., said the system is built to analyze petabytes of detailed data, adding that it stores, filters and processes the data within a single unit, analyzing only the relevant information for each query.
