Later this month, Rouses Markets and Target stores in Louisiana and Mississippi will launch same-day delivery of grocery and home products through Shipt.

The Birmingham, Ala.-based online grocery marketplace said it plans to begin delivering from Target and Rouses stores in the Bayou area and New Orleans’ North Shore, and in Biloxi-Gulfport, Miss., on April 26.

Customers enrolling in Shipt will be able to shop for fresh food and household essentials from the Rouses and Target stores, as well as home goods, electronics, toys and other products from Target. New members are being offered $50 off the regular $99 Shipt annual subscription if they sign up before the service is launched.

"Shipt has come a long way since the initial launch in Birmingham, and we’re proud to bring the convenience of delivery to more households in neighboring states," Shipt founder and chief executive officer Bill Smith said in a statement. "Through our app, our members have access to everything they need, when they need it, right at their fingertips."

With the rollout, about 280,000 households across Louisiana and Mississippi will get access to products at Target and Rouses delivered by Shipt in as soon as one hour. Shipt said it plans to add more than 300 shoppers in the two states to help fill orders at the Target and Rouses stores.

Thibodaux, La.-based Rouses Markets operates 55 stores in three states, including 47 in Louisiana, three on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and five in lower Alabama. Minneapolis-based Target Corp. acquired Shipt last December.
