CHANDLER, Ariz. — Bashas’ Supermarkets here said it’s the first grocery chain in the state to introduce a nutrition program for customers.
Its new Eat Smart program consists of shelf tags in every aisle of the store that identify whether a food is a “healthier option,” “heart healthy,” has “low sodium,” is “calcium rich,” has “reduced sugar” or is an “immune booster.”
Rolling out this month, the program will also include a free Eat Smart newsletter, featuring nutritional foods and recipes, and free monthly Eat Smart healthy shopping tours and in-store events. Bashas’ stores will feature a year-long, designated Eat Smart endcap display of healthy products.
