Bob’s Red Mill has offered its traditional Scottish Oatmeal for a number of years, and it has long been a personal favorite of company founder Bob Moore, company officials say. The company put the same care and effort into developing a safe and delicious gluten free version as it did with the original, they add. “Many years ago, I traveled to the legendary Preston Mill in Scotland, where they’ve been milling oats since the 16th century, to learn the secrets of traditional Scottish oatmeal,” says Moore, who remains president and CEO of employee-owned Bob’s Red Mill. “I studied everything from their special method for toasting oats to the use of ancient millstones, and I took this knowledge home with me to Bob’s Red Mill to create our own Scottish Oatmeal. Our original Scottish Oatmeal is one of my favorites, and I’m proud that we can now offer this 100% stone ground whole grain gluten free version.” The new Gluten Free Scottish Oatmeal (MSRP $5.49, 20 oz.) is made from high-quality oats grown in fields dedicated to gluten free crops, and is sold in 20-ounce bags for a suggested retail price of $5.49. Like all of Bob’s Red Mill’s 85 gluten free products, the gluten free oats are handled in a 100% dedicated gluten free facility, officials add. The company also batch tests gluten free products in its quality control laboratory to ensure safety. The new Gluten Free Scottish Oatmeal is whole grain, stone ground and free from wheat. Because the oats are slowly ground on traditional quartz millstones the resulting porridge is especially smooth and creamy, in the Scottish style, officials say. Containing six grams of protein per serving, the new Gluten Free Scottish Oatmeal is also a good source of fiber and iron. “We’re always looking for ways to appeal to a broad range of shoppers and hot breakfast lovers,” says Matthew Cox, vice president of marketing at Bob’s Red Mill. “Our conventional Scottish Oatmeal has been a staple at the Mill for years, and we’re now excited to invite porridge lovers of all types, gluten free or not, to begin their day with a bowl of our Gluten Free Scottish Oatmeal.” Gluten Free Scottish Oatmeal is now available to retailers in cases of four. Twenty-five pound bulk bags are also available.
