Children’s Cold Medicine Sales Down
Since a Food and Drug Administration panel concluded in October that children’s cough and cold medicines should not be used for children younger than 6, sales of the products have dropped over 16% in the four weeks that ended Nov. 3, compared with the previous four-week period and with the same period last year.

WASHINGTON — Since a Food and Drug Administration panel here concluded in October that children’s cough and cold medicines should not be used for children younger than 6, sales of the products have dropped over 16% in the four weeks that ended Nov. 3, compared with the previous four-week period and with the same period last year. Sales were tracked by ACNielsen, New York, and reported in the Washington Post. Americans spent $21.1 million on the medications during the four weeks, the most recent period for which data is available, down from a little more than $25.3 million during the previous four weeks, the firm reported.
